Second Life(R) is a 3d virtual environment created by Linden Lab, which has captured the attentions of researchers and teachers from around the world from a variety of disciplines.

This workshop aims to improve the understanding of Second Life as a Learning and Research environment. It will bring 35 researchers and professionals together to collaborate, discuss and workshop diverse topics related to research and learning in Second Life. The workshop is a full day workshop, from 9am to 5pm (local time in Milwaukee).

Premises in Second Life

Workshop is held at EduFinland III island in Second Life. SLurl to the island is http://slurl.com/secondlife/EduFinland%20III/20/238/23/

One of the workshop leaders will be on the island during the entire duration of the workshop excluding pauses. There will be a voice link and we are investigating the possibilities to have a live videostream.

Times are local time in Milwaukee i.e. UTC-5. E.g. in Finland the workshop starts at 5 pm.

9.45 – 11.00 Theme 1: Learning in Second Life

11.00 – 11.45 Keynote: Pathfinder Linden aka John Lester, Linden Lab

11.45 – 13.00 Buffet lunch (vegetarian option)

13.00 – 14.30 Theme 2: Research in Second Life

14.30 – 14.45 Coffee break

14.45 – 16.15 Theme 3: Future trends of virtual worlds

16.15 – 16.45 Publication: Roadmap for Next Generation of Virtual Environments for Research and Teaching

16.45 – 17.00 Closing of the workshop
